WHEN WE MEET

St John the Baptist, Burford exists to help us Grow in Christ, Love His people and Reach the Burford Benefice and Beyond

We hold a number of Sunday Services and our hope is that everyone is able to worship in a style that is comfortable for them, whether traditional liturgy or livelier modern worship. Whatever the style, we aim to keep the substance constant: faithful bible teaching, dependant prayer and heartfelt singing.

We have two identical services at 9:30 and 11.15. These are informal services with modern songs led by the band, with some hymns on the organ included. Everyone begins in the service together, and after about 15minutes, those under 14 head out to their Children’s and Youth groups for age appropriate teaching, activities and games.

Our 5pm Service uses a combination of the traditional and modern liturgy in a traditional setting. Traditional hymns are led by an organ and/or choir.

7pm is our least formal service, with opportunity for discussion, prayer and singing alongside the Bible teaching.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month at 8am with a Said service following the Book of Common Prayer, on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the 5pm, the 3rd Sunday of the month at 9:30 & 11:15, as well as short said weekly service Wednesday mornings at 10.30am.

We welcome all who love the Lord to join us in the sharing of bread and wine at His table, although we will happily offer you a blessing if you would prefer. Gluten-free wafers or non-alcoholic wine are available.
