In accordance with the safeguarding policies of the Church of England, our church is fully committed to:

  • Promoting a safer environment and culture for all.

  • Safeguarding and protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults.

  • Following the Church of England’s Safer Recruitment procedures, with priority for those appointed to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

  • Responding promptly and appropriately to every safeguarding concern or allegation in line with the House of Bishops’ safeguarding guidance.

  • Providing pastoral care and support to victims and survivors of abuse, and to others affected.

  • Providing pastoral care and appropriate support to those who are the subject of safeguarding concerns or allegations.

  • Responding appropriately to individuals who may pose a risk to others.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) will:

  • Ensure the church is a safe and caring place for all.

  • Appoint a named Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) to work with the Incumbent and PCC in implementing safeguarding policy and procedures.

  • Clearly display, on church premises and online where possible, contact details for reporting safeguarding concerns and accessing support.

  • Safely recruit, train and support all those with responsibilities for children, young people and adults, equipping them with the confidence and skills to recognise and respond to abuse.

  • Listen carefully to, and take seriously, all disclosures of abuse.

  • Take immediate and appropriate action when a safeguarding concern arises, including notifying the Diocesan Safeguarding Team in accordance with House of Bishops’ guidance.

  • Offer support to victims and survivors of abuse, regardless of the type of abuse or when or where it occurred.

  • Carefully manage and monitor any member of the church community who may pose a risk, maintain appropriate confidentiality while prioritise the safety of all.

  • Ensure appropriate insurance cover is in place for all parish activities involving children and adults.

  • Ensure that a health and safety policy, procedures and risk assessments are in place and to be reviewed annually.

  • Review the implementation of the Safeguarding Policy, Procedures and Practices at least annually

Each person who works within this church community will agree to abide by this policy and the guidelines established by this church
